My Day With Olympic Gold Medalist Frank Shorter
One of the best parts about working in public relations is the people you get to meet. I had the great pleasure the other day of meeting 1972 Olympic Marathon Gold Medalist, Frank Shorter. I guess saying I got to “meet” him would be an understatement. I actually got to spend the entire day with him on a media tour marathon.
Olympic Gold Medalist Frank Shorter to Help Open Running Room store
One of the greatest runners in U.S. history is teaming up with the future stars of track and cross-country to celebrate the grand opening of the Running Room in Apple Valley.
On June 16, Frank Shorter, a 1972 Olympic Marathon Gold Medalist and member of the U.S. Olympic, Distance and Track and Field Halls of Fame, will run alongside members of the Apple Valley and Eastview High School track and cross-country teams in the Gold Medal Effort 5K run/walk, hosted by the Running Room.
All funds raised at the event will benefit the Apple Valley and Eastview track and cross-country programs.
Olympian Frank Shorter and Running Room Founder Host Grand Opening of Eden Prairie Location, Sept. 30
The Running Room will open its Eden Prairie store on Sept. 30 with the help of its founder, John Stanton, and Frank Shorter - a marathon gold medalist at the 1972 Munich Olympics and four-time U.S. cross country champion. The event will include a fun run/walk with a presentation of souvenir medals by Shorter and Stanton. Stanton will also launch his fifth book, Walking: A Complete Guide to Walking for Fitness, Health and Weight Loss, at the opening.
The event will begin at 6 p.m. at the Tower Square Shopping Center, 582 Prairie Center Dr.
Timing Can Be Everything In PR Pitches
Funny thing happened last Friday, when I stumbled into a new running store that’s about to open in our area. It’s a franchise that I’ve known about for six or seven years and I was excited to see they were now going to be about 5 minutes from my house. I walked into the store to ask when they will open and quickly learned that the grand opening was less than a week away and that part of the festivities was an appearance by 1972 Olympic gold medal marathoner Frank Shorter!
