Wag, Walk and Run Hosted by Helping Paws
This past weekend I had the opportunity to attend, and get video of, the annual Wag, Walk & Run Event, hosted by Helping Paws, at Purgatory Creek in Eden Prairie. This was the second year I was able to go, and I am always impressed with the turnout. The rain held off just long enough to keep everyone dry, and everyone seemed to be having a great time. (video after the jump)
More than 400 people and 250 dogs participated in the 5K run/walk. There was also a one-mile kids run and a variety of entertainment including face painting and the chance to meet Helping Paws service dogs in training. I think that, while many come for the run/walk, really the highlight for everyone is the chance to see all of the different types of cute, friendly, dogs!
The event raised $42,000, which will be put towards Helping Paws’ mission of helping individuals with physical disabilities live more independent lives through the use of service dogs. I am so amazed at what these dogs can do to help their owners, from retrieving items for them to opening doors and helping them get dressed in the morning. They are so well behaved and trained, and so well loved, I don’t think you can measure what an asset they are.
