Video is a Must in Social Media Strategy
I had the opportunity recently to sit down with a privately held Global company to help them become more familiar with YouTube and online video. Currently, they have put their big toe into the social media waters to find out rather quickly that they have 10’s of thousands of supporters that are looking for engagement, but they do not have anything that resembles a video strategy.
Now, I am uncertain that after our allotted hour-long discussion that they actually “got it”, but I know that I walked away more convinced than ever that video is a must have in your social strategy. Why? There is no better way to align yourself today with some of the core principles of social media that will engage, educate and entertain better than video.
But I am certain, like all of social media, your video ideas must be grounded in a solid strategy. You need to clearly define who the audience is you are trying to reach, and align your key messages with what kind of information they are looking for. Are they looking for suggestions? Tips? Techniques? Are they looking to find out more about you or find out what your customers have to say about your business?
Some things to think about as you consider your video strategy:
- Do you have enough content that will bring people to your site and keep them coming back?
- If you have video content, is it organized? Do you have a dedicated YouTube channel so they can navigate easily?
- Are your videos easily found and properly tagged to maximize SEO?
- If you have a Facebook fan page, are you leveraging the opportunity to add video content?
- Do you Twitter as part of your strategy to get more views?
- Do you have clearly defined criteria of what you will consider success? (i.e. number of views, comments, increased sales)
What is your video strategy?
