Video of the Week - A Four Year Old Homage to Herb Brooks
This came to me by way of Dave Mona on Facebook. In the movie, “Miracle,” which celebrates the improbable run of the 1980 U.S. Olympic Hockey team, Kurt Russell re-creates Herb Brooks’s pre-game speech prior to playing the Russians. Well, “Rizzo,” a four year old does his version of Russell doing Herbie Brooks.
On a quick side note, I had the opportunity to interview Herb Brooks in the mid-1990’s and funny, he didn’t sound anything like Kurt Russell. Imagine.

StoryTeller Welcomes Chad Whisnant to the Team
We are pleased to announce the addition of Chad Whisnant to the StoryTeller team. Sure, he joined us back in June of this year, so if you’ve done some work with us this year, chances are you’ve met him.
Chad’s a local guy, a native of Minnetonka and a 1992 graduate from Minnetonka High School, so yes, he’s a “skipper.” After high school, he earned his B.A. degree at the University of Iowa in Communications Studies with an emphasis in - what else? - Production and Broadcast studies.
Professionally, Chad worked in television news for his entire career prior to coming to StoryTeller, starting in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and then doing a stint in Raleigh, NC before landing a sports shooter gig at KSTP in the Twin Cities. Chad has earned a reputation as a meticulous shooter with a wonderfully creative eye and a discipline for detail. His work has earned him 4 regional Emmy’s and 5 additional Emmy nominations. If you’re familiar with television Emmy’s you’ll appreciate the success he’s enjoyed.
If you see Chad around, say hello. He’s a great guy and we’re thrilled to have him on board. And remember, just because he went to Iowa doesn’t mean he’s a bad guy.

Make Your Kitchen Sizzle
The kitchen is where most families spend the most time together — debriefing each other on their busy lives, spending quality time together, preparing and consuming meals. However, the kitchen may be the room in your home that is given the least consideration when it comes to paint and decor. Mark Masica, manager of Hirshfield’s Edina location, has some insight on painting your perfect kitchen:
- Choose Bright Colors: Kitchens generally have the least wall space of any room in your home, so it’s important to choose a color that makes the most of the wall space it’s got. Soft yellow and golds often work well in kitchens because, as Masica says, “yellows are bright and cheery, and since your kitchen is often one of the first things you see in the morning, it helps get your day started on the right foot.” Reds, which may seem a bit overwhelming in other areas of your home, are often ideal for kitchens, with just the right amount of wall space to make the room stand out without being too much.
Maximize the Power of Social Media - Help People
When I was growing up, my dad’s first cousin Joe Fedor used to call our house from time to time and my mom would always say, “It’s Uncle Joey again,” even though he’s a cousin and not an uncle, “I wonder what he needs now.” It’s the age old case, you only hear from relatives when they need a favor.
The Seth Godin Doll Goes to the MN State Fair
Heidi Ruen in our office passed this on to me and I thought, what a perfect fit for our Video of the Week. Of course, a more serious video featuring the real Seth Godin is also our VOW, but this is just entertaining stuff!

Seth Godin Talks About Whether Social Media is Good for Biz
I stumbled upon this clip of Seth Godin in which he talks about the value of social media in business. Seth has always had an interesting take on social media and if you haven’t seen him, check this out. By the way, Seth Godin is the keynote speaker at the 2009 MIMA Summit in Minneapolis in October. Check him out!
